Grandma's Pie Crust

This is a wonderful no fail pie crust. It set very well and can handle it's own with an apple pie! It can be used to make fried pies if you choose, and can be frozen for later!
Me with my Grandma and my daughter, Erin.
3/4 c Lard or shortening
2 1/2 c A.P. flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp sugar
1 egg yolk lightly beaten (Place in a 1 cup
measuring cup, fill until almost a full cup)
Mix dry ingredients. Add lard, mix until crumbly. Add egg/water mixture, mix until it makes a ball.
Turn out onto a floured surface, divide into 2 equal balls. Roll out until it is about 1/8 to 1/4 in thickness.
Put into your pie pan and use as needed! I hope you enjoy this as much as I have in my lifetime!

Now for the apple pie that I mentioned above! This recipe comes from a friend in Alaska.

1 recipe for a 9" double pie crust
1/2 c unsalted butter
3 TBSP AP flour
1/4 c water
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c packed brown sugar
(If you are out of brown sugar use 1 c white sugar and 1/2 TBSP of molasses)
1 tsp cinnamon
9-11 apples peeled, cored, sliced

Melt butter in saucepan, Stir in flour until it makes a paste. Add the rest of the ingredients, except apples, and cook until it comes to a full boil, reduce temp and stir for a few minutes. Reserve 1/4 cup for later. Coat apples with mixture. Pour into unbaked pie crust. Place crust on top. Crimp edges or use a fork. Brush on reserved mixture. Cut holes in the top crust, get as decorative as you want here! Bake for 45 minutes at 350 watching carefully the last 10 minutes. Enjoy!
